Industrial sites already know they need on-site power. The lights, the controls, the comms, the cold storage, the gates. When the grid drops, the site cannot wait on a restoration estimate.

The default answer has been a generator. It can carry a load. It also means noise, exhaust, fuel deliveries, and a machine that has to keep running for as long as the outage lasts.

Duration is the requirement

A brief interruption is a nuisance. A multi-day event is lost production. Battery-only backup averages ~11 hours. That is a first response, not a plan.

The useful question is what recharges the battery after that. Solar can help on a clear day. It cannot be the only source on a site that runs at night.

A different way to generate

Redde pairs with a battery and inverter. The battery handles the moment. When the charge starts running low, the fuel cell turns on, tops it off, and shuts back down.

It runs on propane or natural gas. It can start and stop without the damage that keeps other fuel cells in always-on mode. It is quieter than a refrigerator, which matters on a site next to offices, housing, or a noise ordinance.

This is not a megawatt plant in a box. It is long-duration generation for the loads that have to stay up – the same job a small generator does, without asking the site to live with that generator.

What to ask before you add another genset

What has to stay on? How long? What fuel is already on site? Where can the equipment sit? Who services it, and how often?

If the honest answers point to days of backup, a quiet pad, and a battery that already exists, the site is looking at a fuel cell problem, not a bigger engine.
